I’m a full-stack web developer who specialises in one thing that most people overlook: building websites that are fast, secure, and actually grow businesses. Not flashy experiments, not over-engineered apps that cost a fortune to maintain — just clean, reliable sites that load in under a second and don’t break.

This post is the real introduction. I’ll cover who I am, what I offer, why I built this site on Hugo, and what you’ll find here on the blog.

A bit about me

I got into web development because I was frustrated by how bloated most websites are. I’d visit a local business’s site and wait five seconds for it to load, only to find a contact form that didn’t even work. That always felt wrong to me. The web should be fast and accessible to everyone.

Over the past few years I’ve built sites for clients across industries — horticultural societies in London, IT companies in Colorado, criminal defense firms, training providers, streaming startups. Each one taught me something different. A society site taught me about accessibility and heritage. A law firm taught me about trust and conversion. A streaming app taught me about APIs and performance at scale.

What ties them together is that they’re all static sites built with Hugo, and that’s not an accident.

Why I built this site on Hugo

I could have used WordPress like everyone else. I chose Hugo deliberately, and I want you to understand why. It’s the same philosophy I bring to your project.

Speed. Hugo generates plain HTML files. No server-side rendering, no database queries on every page load. The result is a site that loads in milliseconds anywhere in the world.

Security. No database means no database to hack. No PHP runtime means no PHP vulnerabilities. For a small business, that’s a huge weight off your shoulders.

Low cost. Static files can be hosted free on Netlify, Vercel, or Cloudflare Pages. You’re not paying $30/month for a server that sits idle.

Longevity. A Hugo site I build today will still work in ten years with zero maintenance. Try saying that about a WordPress site.

This entire portfolio, the hero with floating code icons, the case studies, and the blog, is a Hugo site. It’s my own proof of concept. If I can make this fast and clean, I can do the same for you.

I’m not going to pretend this will be a daily publication. It won’t. But when I write here, it’ll be worth your time. Here’s what’s coming:

Build diaries. When I ship a project, I’ll write about how it actually happened — the messy middle, the dead ends, the moments I changed direction. Not just the polished result, but the real process. These are the posts I wish I’d found when I was starting out.

Practical tutorials. Hands-on guides on the things I figure out: Hugo templating, pulling data from APIs like TMDB, setting up CI/CD for static sites, getting a perfect Lighthouse score. Concrete, copy-pasteable, no filler.

Tool reviews from the trenches. I go through a lot of tools — static site generators, CSS frameworks, hosting providers, design software. I’ll share what actually works and what’s hype, so you don’t waste your weekend on it.

Occasional craft essays. Sometimes I’ll write about the bigger picture — why static sites matter, the state of web performance, what “good” design really means. Less frequent, but the posts I care about most.
