Seerama – Arabic Movies & TV Series Streaming Platform

Seerama is a fully Arabic movie and TV series streaming directory. It pulls metadata, posters, and ratings from The Movie Database (TMDB) and presents them in a right-to-left, dark-themed interface designed for Arabic-speaking audiences across the Middle East and North Africa.

The Challenge

Building a regional streaming directory comes with unique requirements:

• Arabic-first design — the entire interface must be right-to-left (RTL), from layout to typography, not just a translation bolted onto an LTR design
• TMDB API integration — reliable fetching of movies, series, posters, ratings, and metadata with proper caching and error handling
• Large content volume — thousands of titles must be browsable with pagination, search, and filtering
• Arabic content discovery — the platform needs to surface content relevant to Arabic-speaking users, including subtitled and dubbed options
• Performance at scale — poster-heavy pages must load quickly without overwhelming the user’s browser or bandwidth
• Dark theme with readability — a dark UI that still maintains strong contrast for Arabic text, which has more ascenders and descenders than Latin scripts

The Approach

Content Architecture

The platform is organised into two main content types with dedicated sections:

Design Philosophy

• Dark theme — deep charcoal background reduces eye strain during extended browsing sessions, common for streaming platforms
• Red accent branding — the Seerama logo uses a bold red mark that carries through buttons and interactive elements
• RTL-first layout — everything from the navigation bar to the card grid is designed natively for right-to-left reading
• Card-based grid — poster thumbnails in a responsive grid with hover effects, rating badges, and title overlays
• Minimal navigation — a simple three-item menu (Home, Movies, Series) with a prominent search icon keeps the browsing experience focused
• Arabic typography — carefully selected font stack that renders Arabic script cleanly at both title and body sizes

Technical Implementation

• TMDB API integration — real-time fetching of movie and series metadata, poster images, ratings, and descriptions
• RTL CSS architecture — full right-to-left layout using logical CSS properties for mirror-free RTL support
• Responsive grid — poster cards adapt from 5-column desktop down to 2-column mobile layouts
• Rating display — TMDB vote-average ratings shown as badges on each card with colour coding
• Image optimisation — TMDB poster images served at appropriate sizes with lazy loading
• Client-side search — instant search with debounced API calls for smooth discovery
